Bitexco Financial Tower

Bitexco Financial Tower is a skyscraper located at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Owned by the Vietnamese company the Bitexco Group, this skyscraper is such an imposing spectacle in the city, given the relatively few number of skyscrapers found in the city that are usually built at a distance from each other. It is considered as the 2nd tallest building in Vietnam, after the Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower.

Bitexco Financial Tower History

The Bitexco Financial Tower was one of the first office skyscrapers to be built in Ho Chi Minh City as a result of the rapid two-digit economic growth in the city. Along with the robust economic development of the whole country, it was expected that the need for office buildings where businesses converge would be a necessity. It was planned that the construction of the Bitexco Financial Tower will help ease the expected demand.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the skyscraper took place in September of 2005. But it took another two years before actual construction on the tower started. The tower was topped out by mid-2010. It eventually opened on October 31 of the same year.

Bitexco Financial Tower Features

The Bitexco Financial Tower was designed by New York City-based architectural firm Carlos Zapata Studio. It stands 262.5 meters or 861 feet tall. The tower has a total of 68 floors, including 3 located at the underground level. It also makes use of a total of 16 elevators that can reach any floor from any position in the building within 45 seconds. It currently houses a shopping mall and restaurants aside from office spaces.

The Bitexco Financial Tower is built mostly with steel and glass as primary materials. The tower is designed to be shaped like a lotus petal, which is considered as a symbol of Vietnamese culture. One unique feature of the tower is its protruding helipad. Located at the 50th floor of the building which is at a height of 191 meters or 627 feet, the helipad projects outward from the building itself . Built below the helipad at the 49th floor is an observation deck which provides people with a 360 degree view of the city. Entry into the building’s observation deck requires a ticket.
